Taking Your Pet on Your Beach Vacation

Beach vacations are great for a families, but what about your pet? If you are like most people, your pet is a very important member of your family.

Seeing as they are part of the family, it makes sense that you would want to bring them along on beach vacations, especially when the alternative is being boarded or being left home all alone.

More and more people want to bring their pets on beach vacations. Many hotels, resorts, condominiums, and beach house owners are joining the cause by allowing pets.

The biggest challenge is actually finding the beach vacations places that allow pets. The following tips will help you successfully take your pet on your beach vacations.
  • Most hotels that accept pets say so in their beach vacations listings and brochures.

  • When searching online for beach vacations hotels that allow pets, put the term “pet friendly” in the search box.

  • Make sure that you let travel agents know you seek pet friendly accommodations for beach vacations.

  • Many pet websites will list hotels that are pet friendly for beach vacations.

  • The visitor's bureau of the beach you are visiting should know which local accommodations are pet friendly.

  • Hotels may allow pets, but you also need to check with the local visitor's bureau to make sure pets are allowed on the beach. Many beaches ban pets. Some only allow pets during certain hours. The local visitor's bureau will know the rules.

  • Ask the local visitor's center for a recommendation of pet sitters and/or pet day cares near your hotel. Local pet stores may also have a good recommendation.

  • Find out the location of the nearest veterinarian. It is always good to be prepared in case of emergency. Bring your pet's veterinary records along on your beach vacations.

  • Consider having your pet micro chipped before leaving for beach vacations.

  • Pack for your pet, including bedding, food, treats, toys, leashes, medications, and identification. Do not forget to bring plastic bags to pick up your pets waste.
